PhD studentship opportunity exploring links between diet & AMD

Ready to start your research career? Want to help beat sight loss faster?

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in the UK and the third largest cause of blindness worldwide…but there is still no effective treatment for dry AMD, the most common form of the disease.

We're so proud to fund an exciting PhD studentship at the University of Southampton – exploring the disease mechanisms in AMD  – and in particular how diet influences this disease.

Your potential discoveries could provide new information on diet-induced disease pathways in the retina that predispose individuals to AMD, and whether such effects could be reversed through healthy eating.

Applications close on 19th August 2022.

If you're interested in this opportunity, or you know someone who might be, please contact the University of Southampton for further details. Informal enquiries relating to the project or candidate suitability should be directed to Dr J. Arjuna Ratnayaka (J.Ratnayaka@soton.ac.uk).
